The 3 Warning Signs of Glaucoma

That's right- there are NO noticable symptoms until
it's too late.  Unfortunately, any loss of vision
from glaucoma cannot be restored.
This is why yearly eye health exams are so important!
Glaucoma is the reslut of a fluid build up inside the eye creating abnormally high pressure.  This increase in pressure causes damage to the optic nerve which carries visual information to the brain.  Damage to the optic nerve then results in vision loss, which is irreversable.  More than 50,000 Americans are diagnosed with glaucoma each year.
What is Glaucoma?
Risk Factors
Prevention/Treatment
  • People over 45
  • Family history of glaucoma
  • People with diabetes
  • People with previous eye injuries
  • People with nearsightedness
  • African Americans/Asians
  • Abnormally high intraocular pressures
  • Regular long-term steroid/cortisone use
The treatment of glaucoma is aimed at reducing intraocular pressure. The most common first line treatment of glaucoma is usually prescription eye drops that must be taken regularly. In some cases, systemic medications, laser treatment, or other surgery may be required. While there is no cure for glaucoma, early diagnosis and continuing treatment can preserve eyesight.  If detected early enough, glaucoma can be treated and blindness may be prevented.
